Former world champion boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. declared himself ready to entertain Japanese fighting fans, and he’s ready to prove it on Sunday. He will face Mikuru Asakura at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, but what everyone really wants to know is if he will get a rematch against Connor McGregor.

Mayweather Jr arrived in Japan this week and held a press conference to discuss the game with Asakura after his arrival. This is his latest exhibition match, which will be available on pay-per-view.
Japanese MMA company RIZIN Fighting Federation puts on the show and brings Mayweather back to the ring. He retired from boxing undefeated and has held a number of exhibitions since then, but fans still love seeing him in the ring.
Everything for the show
Asakura is a two-time mixed martial arts champion with 16 wins and three losses. The 30-year-old began his amateur MMA career under the Fighting Network Rings banner. He worked under the promotion’s The Outsider brand and turned pro in 2012 after an amateur record of 6-1.
Asakura competed for The Outsider, DEEP Cage Impact and Road FC and won the RINGS 70 and 65 kg championships in 2015. He then made his RIZIN debut in 2018 and stands 10-2 with the company. After seven consecutive wins, Asakura faced Yutaka Saito in 2020 for the RIZIN Featherweight title but lost by unanimous decision.
Mayweather, better known as Money, entered his first practice fight in December 2018. That was against kickboxing star Tenshin Nasukawa, after which he found his new niche. It didn’t hurt that he made $9 million just for appearing.
He has since appeared in a few more exhibition fights. Now Mayweather will want to do the same as he did with Nasukawa, although he is more than up for the challenge.
Since 2017, there has been no more money in an official match. However, he is still considered the best pound-for-pound fighter. He was a boxing champion in the super featherweight, lightweight, light welterweight, welterweight and light middleweight categories.
While most magdons don’t have lines for the exhibition match, it’s possible to find some offshore books ready for some action. With or without money for the fight, this is going to be a match worth watching.
As the considered one of the best in history gears up to face Asakura, there are also rumors of a possible fight with McGregor, which Mayweather believes may be happening. If so, all he wants is a practice match.
Mayweather and McGregor starred in one of the most watched events of the past decade. Promoters managed to get the best boxer of the moment to take up the gauntlet with the best of the UFC. Five years have passed since that Las Vegas show, where the Irishman lost by TKO in the tenth round.
While the fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor was not brilliant, it is remembered by fans for the sheer size of the event. Both the American boxer and Irish fighter received huge payouts – Mayweather reportedly received over $100 million and McGregor, $30 million.
Mayweather was the odd-on favorite to win, hitting around -1000 on most books. However, to get back into the ring against McGregor would have to be an exhibition game. That is his condition, and not many people would want to argue with him.
He has reportedly confirmed that the fight will take place, but that may not be true. Shortly after making his announcement, McGregor left a message on Instagram that contained only a tag – #notinterested.
That means the battle can still be questioned. Sportsbooks had already started offering lines, with Paddy Power giving Mayweather -700. With everything in the air, gamblers will have to settle for betting on whether the fight will take place.
